Parts and Labor Design was established in 2009 by co-founders Andrew Cohen and Jeremy Levitt. PLD’s innovative approach pushes the boundaries of high-end design, focusing on unique and highly customized interior spaces, furniture and lighting. Their relentless pursuit of fashion forward and timeless design is at the very core of what defines their style.
An internationally recognized design firm, PLD is highly sought after for their award-winning designs as well as their undeniable commitment to relationships with their clients, fabricators and fellow designers. This is the foundation upon which PLD is built, whose ultimate goal has always been a shared sense of values and vision, and that each product embodies integrity, originality and a love of design.
PLD’s work has been featured in publications such as Interior Design, Architectural Digest, Wallpaper, Surface and Hospitality Design, and recognized for outstanding design by the likes of Travel & Leisure, Hospitality Design, Sleeper Magazine and the James Beard Foundation. The studio is currently developing projects for Thompson Hotels, One-Off Hospitality Group, Rosewood Hotels, Unions Square Hospitality Group, and renowned chefs such as Michael Symon, Jonathan Benno, PJ Calapa to name a few.
Andrew Cohen was born in Smithtown, New York. He attended Cornell University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial and Labor Relations, with steady diversions in the fine arts. Upon graduating, he found refuge at the Education Alliance welding studios and the School of Visual Arts, while employed with Sony Pictures.
Yielding to his lifelong interest in design and fabrication, he then attended the University of Toronto, School of Architecture, Landscape + Design, receiving a Masters in Architecture. Andrew returned to New York and joined the offices of award-winning hospitality design firm AvroKO, leading hospitality projects from New York to Shanghai, in addition to their self-propelled projects. In 2009, he started Parts and Labor Design, with friend and fellow AvroKO alum, Jeremy Levitt.
Jeremy Levitt was born in Detroit, Michigan where he developed his fascination with fine arts, functional objects and fine craftsmanship. After graduating from the College for Creative Studies with a BFA in industrial design and crafts, he relocated to New York City in 2003 working for such names as Gaetano Pesce, Donghia and AvroKO Design, as Furniture and Lighting Director.
Entrepreneurship was a firm direction for Jeremy, which resulted in the creation of Parts and Labor Design. With modest beginnings as a two-person operation, PLD has quickly grown to become an award winning design firm with close to twenty employees, and counting.
Jeremy and Andrew are currently diversifying their core in developing a bespoke furniture and lighting line, and also focusing on equity participation in PLD designed projects.
